We are looking for an experienced geology manager to lead our exploration & development geology team in Finland. Join us to explore for cobalt, copper, gold & other technology minerals. We are now seeking an Exploration Manager to join and lead our exploration team at Latitude 66 Cobalt Oy.

About the Role

This full-time role is Finland based and is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic well-funded team focused on unearthing (or making) new cobalt, copper and gold discoveries as well as progressing & enhancing the existing resources in and around Kuusamo and Posio in Northern Finland.

The role will be based at the company’s office headquarters in Posio, Finland. A significant on-site and field presence with the company’s staff geologists at the company’s exploration field bases (Posio, Käylä and Rovaniemi) will be required.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role is critical in impacting company’s future growth and is responsible for:

  • Design, budget, plan and maintain the progress of exploration and discovery activities across the company’s portfolio, with guidance to and collaboration with the company’s executive team and advisors
  • Actively compile and interpret the exploration data and effectively disseminate and communicate the results across the company
  • Develop company exploration technology, systems and procedures and ensuring the company remains at the forefront of new technology and new developments.
  • Identify new exploration targets in Finland (and potentially Scandinavia and worldwide) using mineral system analyses and modelling and cutting edge exploration technology.
  • Take leadership in the effective organization and smooth running of the exploration team, and its relationship with all other external stakeholders.
  • Preparation of technical and corporate statutory reports.
  • Managing the company’s tenement assets

About You

To be successful for this role, you must have:

  • An unwavering commitment to workplace safety and a demonstrated expertise in establishing cultures and systems that embed safety awareness.
  • A passion for exploration geology and a desire to find new mineral deposits.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in geology or geophysics
  • 12-20 years of experience in minerals exploration, with experience managing sizable exploration teams and programs
  • Knowledge and practical experience in geological evaluations.
  • A Finnish or International driver’s license.
  • The ability to work and live in Finland.
  • Sound skills in MS Office, 3D geological/mining software packages, GIS software packages, as well as database and QAQC protocols.
  • Ability to work independently and drive projects forward.
  • A flexible, dynamic and goal orientated work ethic.
  • Experience in structural geology, geochemistry, and geophysics with respect to greenstone belt-hosted gold and/or base metal deposits, with sound interpretation skills, with the ability to identify and focus on important aspects of ore deposit geology would be highly regarded.
  • Experience with budget development and maintenance

It will also be beneficial, but not essential, if you have:

  • Experience in resource estimation and economic evaluation of mineral deposits.
  • Experience in exploring in Scandinavia or northern latitudes.
  • Exposure to Proterozoic or Archean greenstone belt-hosted gold systems.
  • Finnish speaking will be highly regarded but is not imperative to the role.

About the Company

Latitude 66 Cobalt Oy is an established Finnish exploration company with a portfolio of cobalt, copper and gold projects across central and northern Finland, ranging from early-stage greenfields exploration to advanced resource definition and mine planning. Latitude 66 Cobalt is in the process of merging with SunMirror AG, a Swiss-based exploration company, focused on exploration for listed critical metals with Europe.

Activities are currently focused on: (1) the resource growth and development of the K1 Au-Co deposit, that hosts 510 koz Au and 16,500 t Co and remains open at depth, and (2) discovery and delineation of Au-Co camps in the company’s > 3,300 km2 Finnish tenement holdings of gold and base metal prospective terrains.

Latitude 66 Cobalt is the majority landholder in multiple globally renowned Paleoproterozoic greenstone belts of northern Finland, including the Kuusamo Schist Belt, Peräpohja Schist Belt and Kainuu Schist Belt. The Company also holds >1,400 km2 of eastern extensions of the Central Lapland Greenstone Belt, which is host to two of the largest mineral deposits and operating mines in Europe, Kittilä AU mine and Kevitsa NI-Cu mine.
